Breast Cancer Awareness Program

On Friday afternoon October 20th  at the Yorkville Apartments Resident Services Complex , residents  came together for a common cause: Breast Cancer Awareness. The event, organized by the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority IV staff members, Regina Staples and Stephanie Brewer  was a testament to the power of unity and compassion within this close-knit community.
Residents were provided information about breast cancer prevention, screening, and early detection and  had the opportunity to ask questions, share their concerns, and gain valuable knowledge about this pervasive disease.
The event was a feast for the senses, with delicious pink-themed snacks and beverages. From a large pink breast cancer awareness themed cake to other pink delicacies, every bite and sip was a reminder of the importance of health and self-care.
The Breast Cancer Awareness program in this housing authority apartment complex wasn't just about raising awareness; it was a powerful demonstration of the transformative power of community. It showed that by coming together, we can create an environment of love and support, and make a real impact in the fight against breast cancer. With hearts and hands joined, they proved that, indeed, together they stand, united against breast cancer, and united in support of one another.

New Statutory Requirement for Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Program

The statutory requirement to have carbon monoxide devices in HUD-assisted rental properties was made effective December 27, 2022 for public housing and properties participating in the Housing Choice Voucher, Project-based Voucher and Multifamily housing programs. As described in PIH and Housing Notice 2022-01, these devices are required in properties with carbon monoxide sources, such as those with fuel-burning appliances or attached garages. To comply, Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) and owners must install carbon monoxide alarms or detectors in accordance with the standards of the 2018 International Fire Code (IFC).
